Paid Sick Days Coverage from Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Enquirer: Campaign starts for sick days

When Ohio voters go to the polls next fall to elect a president, they may also end up giving themselves a bonus – a guarantee of at least seven paid sick days a year from their employers.

Earlier this year, Ohio labor unions kick-started petition-initiative movement for the Ohio Healthy Families Act, a bill that would require businesses with Ohio employees with 25 or more employees to grant their employees seven sick days a year – sick days that could be used not only when they get ill, but when their children, parents or spouses are sick.

It could have an enormous impact – about 2.2 million Ohio workers, including about 300,000 in the Cincinnati area, have no paid sick leave now, according to Ohioans for Healthy Families, the group pushing the law.

You people do not understand employees. People who do not know what they are talking about should not pass laws.People would never come to work if they did not have to.This is a good vote getting scheme. More paperwork and attorney fees is not what we need. We have too many lazy peoplenow. That is why we have to hire Mexicans. Do not destroy our last few good workers. I take care of my employees without goverment inteference. Get areal job and you will see.

It always amazes me when I here people tell me that they earned something or deserved it after the fact. When you took the job you knew what the pay and benefits were. What changed? This is the same group that will be crying about the cost of living going up and need a raise to cover it. If there are 2.2 million employees in Ohio that have no sick leave, the cost to give them sick leave will be aprox $220,000,000. You know that this cost will be passed onto the consumer. It's just one more thing to run the cost of living up. Now do you understand why jobs are leaving this country. What ever happened to being responsible for ourselves? Does big brother have to do everything for you? I know it would probably be to much to ask but what's wrong with using some of your vacation time if you need to take care of yourself or someone else?

some people dont have vacation time or its not enougth for anything thats whats wrong with all the people that you work for they want to get all they can out of the employee and they dont care about one thing about that person its about time some one steps up for the people.it is the people that makes them all the money you cant even get theses companys to even get nothing good for there people that work for them they say well i got a good days work out of that nobody.i think seven sick days a year would be good but really it should be more because there is not one person out there no better than the other.
