New Poll Results

From Progressive States.org: New poll results being unveiled this week highlight the deep support for guaranteeing families basic rights in the workplace. (Poll results should be showing up this week at http://www.9to5.org.)

The poll of 1,200 likely voters, sponsored by the National Partnership for Women & Families and the Multi-State Working Families Consortium (in collaboration with 10 organizations, including ACORN, AFL-CIO, Moms Rising, 9to5, National Association of Working Women, and Service Employees International Union), has some remarkable findings:

* Eighty-nine percent of poll respondents favor a basic labor standard that would guarantee all workers a minimum number of paid sick days.

I work 12 hr days regularly, if I am sick will I get a regular 12 hr work day off or will they be able to twist it so that I only get 7 8hr days off or another words 56 hrs a year. They did that with our vacation whereas I was supposed to get 15 days which should be 15 x12 but they made it 8hr vac days so all I get is 15x8 which is not my
12hr regularly work days. I hope something is in the bill that if you work 12 hr days or 10 hr that you get the same days off even if it is a 12 hr day as there are many people who have this type of scedule. If not that would mean 4sick days for us and is something I could see them trying to do. If you work 12 hr days you should get 7 12 hr sick days or whatever your regular workday hours off,if not some companies will try to take away what the bill is intended for. I and others should not be penalized because I am scheduled for longer workdays and rotating shifts,if anything we need it more working long hours, rotating days to nights, etc.Just be aware of this in your wording of this bill.
