Democratic Women Get the OHF Message

Niles, Ohio Sept 13, 2007 Local members of the Ohio Democratic Women's Caucus met at McMenamy's Restaurant in Niles last evening. The featured speaker for the event was Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner. Secretary Brunner spoke of her office's committment to improving access to the ballot for all Ohioans as well as a number of initiatives aimed at improving information security, appropriate records access and validity.

The event which was organized by Kristen Olmi, President YSU College Democrats, was well attended. It is apparent that women in Niles and the surrounding communities are actively engaged in the democratic process as Secretary Brunner responded to many questions asked by the audience.

Upon departing attendees were presented with information regarding details of The Healthy Families Act. Women in America embody the long held value of caring for our families. They shouldn't be forced to choose between caring for a sick child and earning their paycheck.

Among the facts presented was that "Half of working mothers report they miss work when their child is sick...". Ohio families need to be able to care for one another without the fear of losing income. This fair and reasonable approach was well received by individuals who attended the event.
