What do you get when you add $.25 hotdogs, Sen. Sherrod Brown, Gov. Ted Strickland, Ohioans for Healthy Families, and hard working Ohioans? Answer: a fantastic Labor Day festival in Lorain, Ohio.
We couldn't have asked for a nicer day to celebrate the hard work, past and present, that labor unions throughout Ohio do everyday. The festival was held at the Black River Landing, in Lorain, Ohio. With the sun shining the entire day, the temperature was in the high eighties all day.
The Ohioans for Healthy Families booth was busy throughout the day with engaged citizens wanting to sign the petition and learn more about the campaign. Elected officials were a constant presence at the booth, signing coalition signup sheets, asking people to sign our petitions, and bringing volunteers drinks and food.
Volunteers and campaign workers collected more than a thousand signatures during the festival. Festival attendants were eager and excited about signing the petition, willing to stand up for working Ohioans even when they all ready received paid sick days benefits. They saw how having this benefit has helped them in the past and wanted to see all of Ohio's workers have this basic workplace benefit.
Thanks to all who helped in the effort and I hope to see you all again in the coming months. We will continue the fight to pass this fair and reasonable legislation. This effort will allow millions of Ohioans to earn paid sick days. Ohioans work hard everyday and deserve the ability to take care of themselves and their families.
